Disneyland Resort

Pedestrian Wayfinding Signage System

The East entry transit hub wayfinding signage that directed guests to and from the Disneyland Resort was ineffective as the systems and services had changed from opening day 10 years prior. I took the initiative to present it to the Resort and received funding to proceed with design. I surveyed all the signage, transportation systems, pedestrian traffic routes and consulted with all stakeholders both inside and outside of Disney including Disney Security Directors, Partner Hotels, and the OC Transit Authority.

The resulting success:

• Removed 180 non-functional message panels

• Full redesign of the entire multi-modal wayfinding system

• Implemented clear messages with only 82 unique sign panels

• A perimeter “Welcoming” messaging to ease guest stress was implemented

• Clearly identified destinations of Parking Lots, Taxi, Hotels, Shuttles and Buses

• 10,000’s of guests each day can now find their way

Since the implementation of this system over the past 10 years, I have expanded it to encompass the entire Resort. It is now the Resort standard for all pedestrian wayfinding signage.
