Welcome to Lamplight Lounge! A gathering place, along with the art of culinary, celebrates the creativity, inspirations, and personalities of the artists and storytellers who help to bring Pixar stories to life.
Lamplight Lounge was a true Pixar branded experience full of art and story that would allow us to create a story with signage and graphics in fun and unique ways. Our scope of work included the code signage, some show signs and a 24’ tall chandelier full of sketches from Pixar.
As the creative leader of the graphics team, it is one of my joys to develop design solutions by way of mentoring junior designers through every step of the process. For this project, I mentored a visiting Graphic Designer from our main office in Glendale, showing her how to take a project from concept through installation. I mentored her through the Lamplight Lounge project, which involved daily check ins, on site mock-ups, developing contract documents, vendor reviews and installation. As the Principal, I influence the development of the design to keep focus on guest experience of the Pixar brand as well as constructability and ultimately provide close direction during fabrication supervision and art direction.
The Chandelier was a collaboration between the DCA Art Director, Senior Lighting Designer and myself. Charlie created the chandelier concept, Kristie designed the central structure and lights, and I designed how the art was going to be produced, attached and the materiality of the images.
By partnering with Roger Gould’s team at Pixar, we were able to obtain a wide variety of early sketches for many Pixar films. To display the art, I designed a binder clip and rod method of attachment. Because the Lighting Designer and I had intimate knowledge with the assembly and it required artistic interpretation to bend and assemble, she and I spent a week installing each and every one of the images, rods, safety cable and lights onto the central column.
